Corn cuarenteño purple. It is from the race Rabbit. Its vegetative cycle is short, or early (between 40 to 45 days), and the plant is medium-sized. For its early ripening, it is known as “corn early” or “corn cuarenteño”. It is grown at altitudes from 200 to 1000 meters above sea level. This corn is adapted to lean soils (with problems of erosion) and slopes of the dry tropics or hot earth of the different regions of the state of Guerrero. The ears are thin and semi-cylindrical, grain crystalline semidentado, there are variants of colors-purple/black/blue, though predominantly white, and yellow. It is also characterized by being semiharinoso. This breed of corn is in danger of being lost, despite their qualities of maturity early, softness and good taste. Different families of the community of Las Lomitas, in the municipality of Coyúca of Benitez are recovering this variety for more than five years, through practices of selection and breeding native, with the aim to continue staying in your region.
